Owning a website is a bit like owning a car. You might have periods of time where nothing goes wrong and so you don’t think too much about it. Then something happens, and it’s panic stations trying to work out what’s wrong and how to fix it.
With your website, when something goes wrong you might start googling things and realise you have no idea what anyone is on about. This is such a situation…it sounds like a very scary error and will most likely send you into the corner rocking.

Help – how to fix: Error Establishing a Database Connection in WordPress
This error can be a tricky one to address. If you’re really feeling unsure about it, I recommend contacting your website host in the first instance. If they’re any good (such as WP Engine or Flywheel), they should be able to help you. If you don’t get any joy there, be sure to check out WP Butler who offer awesome WordPress Support from $60 USD (or $99 AUD).
If you want to persist with troubleshooting yourself, brace yourself for what could be a reasonably quick fix, or one that will chew up considerable time!
